Help From Tragic Laughter
It's not all just interviews and album reviews around here - I want to perform a public service as well. One thing that some comedians strive for is that precious spot on television whether it's a set on one of the late night shows, or a Comedy Central special. Naturally most comedians who are considered "funny" or "original" will never have that chance because network executives are stupid. However, for you comedians who strive to get on TV your friends at TL want to present you with this sure fire method to get the attention of any old white man currently running a television network.
Phil Mazo Sits Down
I had a choice to make this week - either interview a solid up and coming feature act who I enjoy a great deal, or try to hunt down Mo Rocca to deliver some snarky comments on current events while relating them to New Yorker cartoons that only four people have ever seen. Naturally Rocca doesn't return my emails or phone calls so instead of that torture you'll just have to enjoy one of the funniest guys to ever lead a crowd in a chorus of "rape" chants, Phil Mazo. I've been pushing his debut album "Pervert" on anyone who will listen to me and I stand behind that recommendation. If you need further proof, check out our great Tragic Talk with Phil Mazo and see what I've been talking about.
Tragic Talk with D.C.
When Tragic Laughter was still in the womb, and I was deciding whether it was going to be the coat hanger or a lifelong commitment I invisioned a place where you could come to find out about some comedians that you wouldn't necessarily hear other places. I appreciate the contributions of Nick Di Paolo and Doug Stanhope, and I assure you that established comedians will not disappear from TL (as a matter of fact there is something lined up for tomorrow). But, today I throw on my Rodney Dangerfield coat and bring you D.C. from Seattle, Washington. Do yourself a favor and give him a chance, I know you won't be disappointed -- well you'll be disappointed in yourself, but you'll still laugh.
Artie Lange Resigns From Stern
I do not get Sirius so I have no way to really put into context what is happening with this story right now but it appears that Artie Lange got into an on air dispute with his personal assistant that carried over into a confrontation with Howard that ended with Artie "resigning" from the show.Stern accepted, but told Lange to leave and cool off. Just before Lange left he told Stern: "I'm not a good person ... I gotta leave ... I love you". I plan on writing about this later on the blog when more developes but if anybody knows anything more PLEASE send an email.
Phil Mazo, "Pervert"
I cannot stress enough how you need to check in with all the different elements of the Tragic Comedy Kingdom here because I will update the blog, or the myspace without adding anything to the main page. I finally got my shit together and wrote a review of the debut album by Phil Mazo titled "Pervert" and I will make you read the entire thing but needless to say I left satisfied. It's not every day that you start an album with a vintage television interview and end it with a crowd chanting "RAPE" but that's what you get with Phil Mazo. Click the picture to check out the full review, and stay tuned because I don't think this is the last Phil Mazo post coming this week.
Is Root of all Evil Funny?
I enjoy Lewis Black, and I know that I'm not alone in that sentiment so I'm not the only person who has been trying to watch his new show "Root of all Evil". In theory the show should work - comedians debate a topic to determine which one is the - wait for it - root of all evil. Unfortunately the show has been Comedy Centralized and I'm left to wonder if a show stocked with pseudo comedians is even worth watching. So I'm leaving it up to you to decide the fate of this show because at heart I'm a simpleton who will do what he is told. Before I forget even when the main page isn't updated the blog and forums usually are so keep checking in on those frequently as well.
Tragic Talk with Patrick Milligan
It's safe to assume that anyone who winds up stumbling across this Tragic piece of the intertubes has at one point or another spent some time at Cringe Humor. CH is one of the best stand up comedy (and more) websites out there and whether you hate their style or love it you have to respect what they've been able to accomplish. Patrick Milligan is one of the minds behind CH, and he has been incredibly nice to me to the point where I half expect a Dexter like meeting someday where I wind up freeze dried and in pieces. I only ask that he doesn't have sex with my corpse, or at least clean it off before disposing of me. The newest Tragic Talk features the man behind the CH empire and it's certainly worth a read.
Tragic Talk with Doug Stanhope
Doug Stanhope has had many honors in his career (The "Man Show" does not count), but perhaps none could equal the opportunity to speak with an internet comedy site run by a guy born in the same city as him. I have heard Dave Attell say that Doug Stanhope is his favorite comedian, and I won't argue with that type of an introduction. Doug refrained from ripping me apart for my terrible interview abilities and for that I am forever in his debt. We've added upcoming show dates for Doug on the right, and if you check the forums along with the blog you'll notice even more Doug Stanhope information. I'm really proud to welcome Doug into the Tragic Laughter Family, and I hope you all head on over to the second in our Tragic Talk Series with the man who should be President, Doug Stanhope.
